Measurement of ionising radiation concerns radiation protection of personnel, medical application, e.g. in connection with cancer treatment, and industrial measurement applications, e.g. sterilisation of medical equipment. All applications require quality assurance and measurement traceability.

A national metrology institute has not yet been appointed within the area of ionising radiation, but Risø High Dose Reference Laboratory (Risø-DTU) – Risø HDRL – is accredited for measurement for industrial applications in the absorbed dose range 0.2 – 100 kGy and the State Institute for Radiation Protection – SIS – provides as secondary dose laboratory under the IAEA measurement traceability for the medical applications at hospitals.
